One of the world’s most exciting early music ensembles perform in Durham Cathedral for the first time. I Fagiolini are known for their inventive programming, combining serious scholarship with immaculate singing, and always with curiosity and fun, under the direction of Robert Hollingworth who conducts this performance.
Monteverdi wrote the 1610 Vespers as part of a job application, and so in it he shows off all his brilliance and versatility, from 10-part choral writing to dazzling solos, in a work ideally suited to the vast spaces of Durham Cathedral.
