European Lute Ensemble & Durham Singers

Sun 30 Oct 2016 , 8:00 pm

| £12

In their first ever concert outside Italy, The European Lute Orchestra with their director Gian Luca Lastraioli bring the unique sound of a massed lute band to the Great Hall at Durham Castle. The orchestra is the only group of its kind in the world, and is dedicated to recreating this unique musical sound.

In addition to music for lutes, the orchestra will be joined by the Durham Singers for two choruses from early opera by Emilio de’Cavalleri and the choir also perform two major motets by William Byrd, written at the same time as the Cavalleri pieces.
