Orchestra North East

Sun 8 Feb 2015 , 3:00 pm

| £18

Orchestra North East presents a concert for music-lovers of all ages – something from the BBC’s current ‘Ten Pieces’ project, a taste of the varied world of the clarinet in the company of a great player, and a beautiful piece of Americana.

Mussorgsky:   Night on a Bare Mountain.
Mozart:           Clarinet Concerto.
Dankworth:    Clarinet Concerto -‘The Woolwich’.
Copland:         Appalachian Spring.

Conductor:       Aidan Oliver.
Soloist:             Emma Johnson.

The concert opens with Mussorgsky’s vividly picturesque Night On The Bare Mountain, before the world famous clarinettist Emma Johnson joins the Orchestra for not one but two concertos. Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Concerto is perhaps the most famous of all wind concertos and will provide a tremendous contrast to Emma’s second piece, a jazz-influenced Woolwich Concerto written especially for her by the late John Dankworth. The concert concludes with the evocative orchestral suite from Copland’s ballet Appalachian Spring.
