Orchestra North East ¡Hola España!
Sun 1 Oct 2017 , 3:00 pm| £16
Orchestra North East’s autumn concert is full of carnival spirit, with most of the music on the programme inspired by Spain
Dvořák : Carnival Overture, opus 92
Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez
Bizet: Suite no.1 from Carmen
Rimsky-Korskov: Capriccio Espagnol, opus 34
Manus Noble is the soloist in Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez and the orchestra are delighted to be working with conductor James Ham. James stood in at short notice to cover a rehearsal for the orchestra last year, and ONE are looking forward to welcoming him back for this concert.
Although Slavic in origin, Dvorak’s Carnival Overture represents, as he wrote, “a carnival of pleasure” and anyone who has had the pleasure of experiencing a Spanish Fiesta will recognise that same sentiment in this music. The orchestra are very pleased to welcome as their soloist in the Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez, the exciting young classical guitarist, Manus Noble. Carmen is probably the most famous of all operas and the two orchestral suites completed after his death contain many of the glorious melodies Bizet created. Finally Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliant showpiece Capriccio Espagnol provides a fitting climax to the concert.
