Elgar: Cockaigne – In London Town
Gershwin: An American in Paris
Berlioz: Harold in Italy

Conductor: Timothy Henty
with Garfield Jackson, viola

Orchestra North East, with their guest conductor Timothy Henty, present a concert with a travelling theme, visiting London, Paris and Italy in appealing works by Elgar, Gershwin and Berlioz. From Elgar we have the lively and tuneful concert overture Cockaigne (in London Town). Then we cross to Paris for Gershwin’s American in Paris, a beautifully evocative picture of that lively city complete with car horns, bluesy trumpets and saxophones!  Harold in Italy by Berlioz completes the programme. This symphonic work, with a substantial part for solo viola was inspired by a Byron poem and paints a picture in music of a journey through Italy, ranging across mountains and even encountering brigands.
