Durham Opera Ensemble with David Stancliffe and a period instrument orchestra perform Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, one of the earliest operas ever written, and the oldest in the standard repertoire.
Hugo Hymas sings the title role with Charlotte La Thrope as Euridice accompanied by a
period instrument band of cornets and sackbuts, regal and organs, harpsichords and chitaroni, an arpa doppia and various viols and a lirone.
