The Music of Light – science workshop & concert
Sat 14 Nov 2015 , 2:00 pm| Free
Explore the modern science of light in a hands-on public workshop: send messages along a light beam, impersonate a galaxy, see how matter bends light and explore medieval understandings of the light, colour and sound, then enjoy a short concert by the Durham Singers to hear how light light has inspired composers from the Renaissance right up to the present day. The concert includes the world premiere performance of The Light by Janet Graham, setting a poem by Gordon Hodgeon, both of whom live near Durham.
Handel: Eternal source of light
Cecilia McDowell: The skies in their magnificence
Victoria: Communio (Requiem)
Pärt: O Morgenstern
Byrd: O Lux beata Trinitas
Tallis: O Nata lux
Rachmaninov: Svete Tikhiy
Janet Graham: The Light (world premiere)
Brahms: Warum ist das Licht (part I)
Harris: Holy is the true light
Bach: O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht.
