The Choral Pilgrimage: Sacred and Profane
Fri 26 Oct , 7:30 pm| £27
The Sixteen’s 2018 Choral Pilgrimage takes the music of William Cornysh (both father and son) and Benjamin Britten and looks at the way these composers mix the sacred and the secular. Whilst Cornysh’s sacred music is elaborate and rhythmically complicated, the secular music is simple yet subtly evocative.
Britten makes constant demands on vocal artistry best displayed in the last work he ever wrote for unaccompanied voices, Sacred and Profane, composed in the winter of 1974-5
