Voice of the Bridge

Sat 29 Jun , 8:00 pm

| £10

“I connect one side to the other, the past to the present, the high to the low; I am the city’s scandalous gossip, its joyful protest and its angry conscience; I am the voice of the outcast and forgotten; and I am, above the river’s drifting vastness, all that divides one doomed man’s fate from another’s …”

The stones of the Pont Neuf in Paris sing their seventeenth-century past as the beating heart of the city and nation. Internationally renowned musicians Badinage / Ars Eloquentiae, including mezzo-soprano Katie Bray who will be representing England at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, give a performance written by Jonathan Rees of original street songs of gossip, protest and scandal, high baroque music, and words by contemporary writers.

Katie Emily Bray – voice
Naomi Burrell – violin, percussion, vocals.
Leo Duarte – oboe, recorder, percussion, vocals.
Tom Foster – harpsichord & percussion, vocals.
Jonathan Rees – viol, percussion

Performed in the Joachim Room at The College of St Hild and St Bede
