EXAUDI Chromatic Renaissance
As part of the Musicon concert series, virtuosic vocal ensemble EXAUDI present their groundbreaking and critically-acclaimed Chromatic Renaissance programme, featuring the microtonal music of renaissance theorist Nicola Vicentino, plus Lassus, Rore, Marenzio and Luzzaschi, and new music by Sylvia Lim and Durham-based Elisabet Dijkstra.Vicentino experimented with conventional tonality, dividing the octave into 31 steps instead of 12. As far as is known, no other vocal ensemble, either in Vincentino’s day or since, has ever attempted to sing this extraordinary music without accompaniment.
