
Magnificat
On the feast of the Annunciation, the Durham Singers sing settings of the Magnificat, Mary’s response to the Angel Gabriel. They are joined by e members of Vox Populi – a consort of singers from the North East who perform small ensemble music. for the first performance in the North East of Oliver Tarney’s setting of the Magnificat .
Alongside Tarney’s new setting, the choir performs three other responses to this text, beginning with plainchant from the Graduale Romanum ‘Magnificat Tone VIII’, followed by Hieronymus Praetorius’ Magnificat Quinti Toni and Arvo Pärt’s Magnificat.
