O: Advent Antiphons
The Advent ‘O’ antiphons were written in the sixth century and are traditionally used at Vespers in the last week before Christmas. Familiar to many through the hymn ‘O Come, o come Emmanuel’ they describe different facets of Christ’s role and look to his coming. Durham University Chamber Choir perform two settings of these ancient texts, the thunderous chromaticism of Polish composer Paweł Łukaszewski contrasting with Bob Chilcott’s lyrical close harmonies.
