St John Passion
Durham Cathedral Choir and the period instrument Avison Ensemble join forces in Holy Week for their annual performance of the St John Passion. J.S. Bach’s account of the trial and crucifixion of Christ with its highly charged dialogue, powerful choruses and moving arias is perhaps the closest the composer came to writing an opera.
Daniel Cook, Master of the Choristers and Organist at Durham Cathedral directs this performance with violinist Pavlo Beznosiuk leading the orchestra.
