Handel’s Messiah
Durham University’s early music ensemble Dunelm Consort and Players presents Handel’s Messiah in an intimate performance with solos shared between members of the consort and following Handel’s original scoring for small choir and chamber ensemble. The musicians are joined by guest conductor Gianluca Marcianò, Principal Conductor of the Orchestra Magna Grecia, Principal Guest Conductor of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of Al Bustan Festival, bringing what The Sunday Times described as ‘unfailingly theatrical and idiomatic conducting’.
Messiah is an enduring seasonal favourite for Christmas or Easter (or, if you’re me, all year round), themed around Jesus’ nativity, passion and resurrection, through dramatic choruses and arias that probe the deeper meanings at the heart of the familiar Christian story.
