In this intricate and playful programme, DUOS Chamber Ensemble embark on a musical journey through different landscapes and cultures.
Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture opens the concert with a vivid depiction of the Scottish coastline, inspired by his visit to Fingal’s Cave. Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite brings theatrical eighteenth-century melodies into the twentieth century with his characteristic wit and rhythmic energy.
Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia transports us across an expansive landscape where Russian and Eastern musical worlds meet and Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite, originally composed as film music, uses military marches as satire to tell the story of a soldier who never existed, while also adding a seasonal festive twist.
