Christmas with Durham Singers and Northern Spirit

Durham Singers and Northern Spirit Singers give a joint concert of Christmas favourites and hidden gems in a seasonal programme that offers comfort, reflection and surprise.

The two choirs will unite to sing Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Cecilia McDowall’s A Winter’s Night, a sparkling Christmas cantata that reimagines five traditional carols from around Europe with fresh harmonies, rhythmic vitality, and a jubilant finale. There are also works by the Durham Singers’ music directors: the premiere of Tom Edney’s arrangement of Christmas Carol by Avril Coleridge Taylor and Love Came Down at Christmas by David M. Harris, a piece which made it into the finals of the 2021 BBC Radio 3 Christmas Carol competition.

Hans Leo Hassler – In dulci jubilo
