Mayer’s Faust Overture plunges into the supernatural energy and emotional tension of the Faust legend. By contrast, Copland’s ballet takes on a more innocent hue, sa this American staple paints a portrait of tenderness and lyricism, reflecting new beginnings and including the Shaker melody ‘Simple Gifts’.

Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony is a feast of unstoppable rhythm and jubilant energy, often described as the ‘apotheosis of the dance’ to close the programme in triumphant spirit.
