St John Passion
Durham Cathedral Choir and the period instruments of the Avison Ensemble give their annual performance of J.S. Bach’s dramatic St John Passion. With its energetic choruses and strong characterisation, this account of Christ’s arrest, trial and death is perhaps the closest Bach ever came to writing an opera. The solos will be performed by current and former members of the cathedral choir.
Free tickets, no booking required.
The concert will be preceded by a Lent talk in the Galilee chapel, exploring faith and music with composer Sir James MacMillan.
