Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No.5
Durham University Orchestral Society celebrate their 60th anniversary this year so the symphony orchestra is marking this with Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite – a piece that they played in their first ever concert. From the past to the present, A Hero’s Tale – Dreams Come True is a new piece composed by one of the orchestra’s members, Maxwell Richards-Clarke.
The orchestra conclude with Tchaikovsky’s monumental 5th Symphony, a piece that, despite the composer’s denials, suggests a dramatic battle with fate.
