The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace

Bearpark & Esh Colliery Brass Band and the Ushaw Chapel Choir perform The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, written at the turn of the millennium ‘in reflection of the passing of the most war-torn and destructive century in human history’. Drawing on the medieval tune ‘L’homme armée, the work combines texts of the Catholic mass, with prayers from other religions and works by writers including Lord Tennyson, John Dryden, Rudyard Kipling and  Sankichi Toge to reflect on the horrors of war and the universal hope for peace.
