Eight of Durham’s chapel choirs combine for an evening of exceptional choral music with works by composers including William Walton, Cecilia McDowall and Edward Elgar.
The first half of the evening reflects on the peaceful beauty of the English countryside with ‘Linden Lea’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams and the blossoming of love in Patrick Hadley’s ‘My Beloved Spake’ and concludes with the dramatic power of William Walton’s ‘The Twelve’, recounting the legacy of the twelve apostles.
The second half will rejuvenate you with the joyful choruses of Henry Purcell’s ‘I Was Glad’ and Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’ and the evening culminates with a combined performance by all of the chapel choirs of Hubert Parry’s ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’, with an orchestral accompaniment.
This concert is also in partnership with RT Minds, a Durham-based suicide prevention charity, and all profits from the concert will go towards supporting this cause.
